Board Meeting Notes
August 23, 2007
Mrs. Sue Helms, President, called the meeting of the Madison City Board of Education to order at 6:15 P.M. in the board room at the Teacher Resource Center. A public hearing concerning the school systemís budget was held prior to the meeting.
Mrs. Theresia Mullen introduced Mrs. Debbie Cox, Media Specialist at Madison Elementary School, who recently was nominated for the 2007 Herman Moore LAMP Award. Mrs. Cox will be honored at a ceremony to be held in Florence, Alabama.
The Board approved minutes from the meeting held on August 2, 2007. The Board also approved July 2007 financial statements, a NExT Classroom bid, and personnel actions.
Dr. Fowler announced that over 500 students at Bob Jones High School took the ACT test and their average score was 23.3. The state ACT score average is 20.3.
Dr. Fowler also asked Mrs. Rains to discuss an honor bestowed by the Alabama State Department of Education to Mrs. Sharon Willis, principal at Discovery Middle School. Mrs. Rains stated that Mrs. Willis was named a key network leader in the state, as it relates to 21st Century Classrooms.
Dr. Fowler then announced that Madison City Schools was selected to present two sessions (Creating Section 504 and Increasing Nationally Board Certified Teachers) at the National School Boards Association Conference in Orlando, Florida. Mrs. Helms mentioned that Mrs. Sue Hall, Curriculum Specialist, did an excellent job writing the proposals from the school system for the conference.
A second public hearing concerning the school systemís budget will be held on Thursday, September 13, 2007, at 5:00 P.M. in the board room at central office. A regular school board meeting will immediately follow the hearing.
