Board Meeting Notes

July 25, 2007

Mrs. Sue Helms, President, called a work session of the Madison City Board of Education to order at 4:10 P.M. in the board room at the Teacher Resource Center. The only item discussed during the work session was the school systemís strategic plan. The Board then entered into a regular meeting immediately following the work session. 

The Board approved minutes from the meeting held on July 10, 2007. The Board also approved June 2007 financial statements, Bid #2007-17, Child Nutrition Program Produce Bid, Bid #2007-26, Child Nutrition Program Bread Products, Bid #2007-27, Child Nutrition Program Dairy Products, Bid 2007-23, Refrigerated Truck, local school paid academic supplements for instructional department heads at Bob Jones High School, an organizational chart, state mandated pay raises become effective with the employment contract date for each Board employee, and personnel actions.

Dr. Fowler recognized Heritage Elementary School for receiving the National Schools of Character Promising Practices Award. They will be honored in Washington, D.C. The school will also be a national model for character education.

Dr. Fowler announced that Mr. Darryl Sweat, Horticulture teacher at Bob Jones High School, won the National Agricultural Educators Award. He also announced that Mrs. Marty Tatara, Child Nutrition Coordinator, has been named the chair of the Action for Healthy Kids Committee. Dr. Fowler then stated that the school system transportation department received a letter from the Alabama State Department of Education congratulating them on having bus inspections with less than 10% in deficiencies..

Dr. Terri Johnson applauded Bob Jones High School staff on changes made to their procedure in which parents and students may pick up schedules.

Mrs. Sue Helms discussed recent educational conference and events she has attended on behalf of the Alabama Association of School Board and the school system. 

The next Board meeting was scheduled for Thursday, August 2, 2007, at 
5:00 P.M, at the Teacher resource Center.
