Board Meeting Notes
July 10, 2007
Mrs. Sue Helms, President, called the meeting of the Madison City Board of Education to order at 5:10 P.M. in the board room at the Teacher Resource Center.
Dr. Clara Toney, Resource Specialist in the Instruction Department, presented student writing assessment data to the Board and public. Dr. Toney stated that student test scores have steadily increased each year.
The Board approved minutes from the meeting held on June 21, 2007. The Board also approved May 2007 financial statements, Bid 2007-19, Water Filtration Systems for schools in the district, from Hydro Technologies, Inc., Bid 2007-20, Madison City Schools Painting, from K&M Painting, the engineering textbook, Engineering Your Future, ISBN: 1-881018-82-2, for Bob Jones High School, a girl’s softball camp to be held on July 24-26, 2007, at Discovery Middle School, change order #1 for the Bob Jones High School Field House, an amendment to Policy JAJ- Student Code of Conduct, and personnel actions.
Mrs. Helms announced that she would be attending the School Board’s Southern Regional Conference in San Antonio, Texas. She also announced that the Board would be attending the Alabama Association of School Boards Summer Conference in Orange Beach, AL at the end of July.
Dr. Fowler announced that three board members have received special recognition from the Alabama Association of School Boards Academy (Mr. Ray White - Level One, Dr. Shelia Nash-Stevenson – Master Level, and Mrs. Sue Helms – Master Honor Level). The board members reached the levels by attending professional development sessions sponsored by the Alabama Association of School Boards.
A work session with a board meeting to follow was scheduled for Wednesday, July 25, 2007, at 4:00 P.M. in the board room at central office.
