Board Meeting Notes
June 13, 2007
Mrs. Sue Helms, President, called the meeting of the Madison City Board of Education to order at 5:05 P.M. in the board room at the Teacher Resource Center.
Dr. Cindy Cason presented information concerning the school system’s Strategic Plan. Her search firm gathered data from each school and the central office to determine the school system strengths and challenges. She also suggested recommendations to strengthen the school system instructional program.
Mrs. Sally Bruer, principal at Liberty Middle School, Mrs. Patty Piro, counselor at Bob Jones High School, and Mrs. Brenda Albritton, Behavior Specialist, presented information to the Board and public concerning our Alternative School Program.
Mr. David Smith, financial consultant, and Mr. Frank Nola, architect, presented information concerning the land development for the new elementary school.
Mr. Jerry Mercer, auditor with Mercer & Associates, P.C, presented the fiscal year 2006 audit report to the Board and public. Mr. Mercer stated there were no findings in the financial records of the school system. He also stated that the Madison City Board of Education was determined to be a low-risk auditee.
Mrs. Kathy Rains, Director of Technology, presented a data technology summary evaluation report to the Board and public. The report outlined the technology programs evaluation process, goals, findings, and recommendations.
The Board approved minutes from the meeting held on May 22, 2007. The Board also approved a Discovery Middle School Baseball Camp flyer, a fifth grade Math class for Liberty Middle’s summer school program, bid 2007-16, Termite Control, for the Madison City Schools, bid 2007-15, Bob Jones High School Computer Room HVAC, bid 2007-17, Horizon Elementary HVAC, a transition course proposal, April 2007 financial statements, budget amendments #2 for fiscal year 2007, a No Child Left Behind reauthorization letter to Representative Robert “Bud Cramer, Resolution 07-03, Authorizing the superintendent and legal representatives of the Board to pursue collection of casual sales tax revenue due to be paid over to the Board, and personnel actions.
Mrs. Helms announced that the next meeting for the Board of Education would be June 21, 2007, at 5:00 P.M. at the central office.
