Board Meeting Notes
September 21, 2006
Mrs. Sue Helms, president, called the meeting of the Madison City Board of Education to order at 5:00 P.M. in the board room at the Teacher Resource Center and Central Office.
Mrs. Kathy Rains discussed possible changes in weighting student grade point averages. The Board asked Mrs. Rains to continue discussion about this concept at the Board’s next work session. Dr. Nowlin stated that principals would give their input concerning the idea at the next principals’ meeting.
The Board approved minutes from the meeting held on August 28, 2006. The Board also approved a release agreement; issuance of a request for proposal for an architect for the new elementary school, two delegates and an alternate to attend and represent itself at the Alabama Association of School Board Delegate Assembly on December 7, 2006; the concept of granting an easement to the City of Madison for the purpose of allowing access to the Bradford Creek Greenway; Resolution #06-04, requesting that the Madison County Commission levy a one-half cent sales tax for education; renewal of the second year option of Bid #2005-11, Lawn Maintenance; the low responsive/responsible bid meeting specifications for Bid #2006-13, Wrestling Mat, from Dollamur Sport Surfaces; the low responsive/responsible bid meeting specifications for Bid #2006-14, HVAC Filter Maintenance, from Pure Air; a baseball camp sponsored by Discovery Middle School to be held during October 9-11, 2006; August 2006 financial statements; and personnel actions.
Dr. Nowlin announced that we had four schools, Columbia, Heritage, Madison and Bob Jones to receive $5,000 from the Alabama Department of Education.
Dr. Nowlin congratulated Mrs. Kathy Rains, Director of Technology, for being selected to receive an all expense paid trip to a Global Education Summit in the United Kingdom. The conference is sponsored by Promethean.
The next Board meeting was scheduled for October 5, 2006 at 5:00 P.M at the Teacher Resource Center.
